Ilme Schlichting (born March 8, 1960) is a German biophysicist.
She was born in Kiel and studied biology and physics at the University of Heidelberg. She earned a PhD in biology there in 1990. Schlichting pursued post-doctoral studies at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research and at Brandeis University in the United States. In 1994, she became head of a working group at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund.
Schlichting has studied the structure and operation of biomolecules using protein crystallography.
In 1993, she received the Ernst Schering Prize which is awarded for outstanding research. Schlichting was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize in 2000 for biophysics.
